Fair
The Middle English word "feire", which means a gathering
of people held at regular intervals for the barter or sale of goods, is
the one from which the present day definition, i.e. a periodic gathering for
sale of goods, often with shows or entertainment, at a place and time
fixed by custom, is taken.6)
